Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday asserted that he would spare no efforts to supply Krishna water through Srisailam reservoir to Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanthi, Handri Neeva, Somasila and Kandaleru reservoir.
A high-level committee was constituted to bring revolutionary changes in execution of irrigation project works, Mr. Naidu said while addressing a review meeting on progress of irrigation projects with irrigation officials, district officials and contractors near Sarvarayasagar reservoir at Veerapunayunipalle in Kadapa district.
The panel would take necessary action to eliminate technical hitches in the project works. Water would be released to Sarvarayasagar reservoir under Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanthi within an year, he said. Recalling that it was his third visit to the reservoir, he assured drip and sprinkler irrigation facilities to one lakh acres in Kamalapuram constituency. Officials should not rest until they achieved the set goals, he said.
Referring to three reports received by the government on leakages in irrigation projects, he said he would visit the projects on May 13. Instructing contractors to complete works on schedule, he warned of action in case of delay or attempts to dupe the Government.
On being briefed by Chief Engineer of Irrigation Varadarajulu, the Chief Minister directed completion of works in all reaches within the next three months. Directing desilting of all the tanks, he said no checkdam should need repairs. He announced sanction of Rs. 50 crore for development of backward classes in Kadapa district.
Collector K.V. Ramana said the district has 243 tanks irrigation about 100 acres each and 51 tanks have been desilted under Neeru Chettu programme. Fifty four metric tonnes of mud was removed from tanks having lesser extents. A sum of Rs. 10.70 crore was spent to conduct 134 Neeru Chettu awareness meetings, he added.
Mr. Naidu directed public representatives in the district to sleep near each project for a day and create public awareness. District in charge Minister Ravela Kishore Babu, Irrigation Minister D. Joint Collector M. Rama Rao, Irrigation SEs Gopal Reddy, Koteswara Rao and Sankara Sarma, and GNSS Special Collector Nageswara Rao were present.
