Kumbh: More stands, fare charts on the cards
NASHIK: The Regional Transport Office (RTO), Nashik, has started a survey to select spots and putting up autorickshaw stands in various parts of the city ahead of Kumbh Mela beginning July 14. It also wants to put up boards of fares to prevent harassments of the passengers travelling on a share basis.
With the city growing in size and its population increasing like never before, there has been a rise in the number of autorickshaws as well.
However, the RTO has not increased the number of autorickshaw stands in the city. Officials said the city at present has 27 autorickshaw stands, though sights of the three-wheelers standing at every nook and cranny are common.
Apart from the stands, the RTO is also contemplating to put up boards of the rickshaw fare from the stands to various parts of the city.
Assistant regional transport official Sudam Suryawanshi said, “The boards of the fare (according to the sanctioned tariff) will be put up at the autorickshaw stands to prevent the drivers from charging the passengers exorbitantly.”
Shivaji Bhore, the district president of the Vahatuk Sena of the autorickshaw drivers, said, “It has been more than a decade that the number of autorickshaw stands has not been increased. We have appealed to the RTO officials to form a committee and take the views of the autorickshaw unions’ office bearers so that they understand the drivers’ requirements.”
