BiH demands thorough probe into police station attack

The Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) on Tuesday called on all levels of police and judicial bodies to conduct a thorough investigation into an attack on a police station.

Bosnian Nerdin Ibric, 24, entered a police station on Monday evening in the town of Zvornik in the entity of Republic of Srpska (RS) killing one policeman and wounding two others. Ibric was killed in the shootout. It was believed the act was religiously motivated, according to local reports.

The presidency said these attacks pose a threat to security, constitutional order, and the international position of BiH and its citizens, urging judicial, police, and intelligence security agencies to take all necessary measures to bring to justice all the individuals responsible.

The presidency also called on citizens of BiH to abstain from taking part in any activities that could lead to inter-ethnic or inter-religious provocations and incident.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH (MFA) Igor Crnadak also condemned the "despicable and brutal terrorist act."

He welcomed the formation of a common investigative team comprised of officers from the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) and the RS Ministry of Interior Affairs.

High Representative Valentin Inzko from the Office of the High Representative in BiH (OHR) reiterated his severe condemnation of the attack, adding that calmness and restraint in the wake of the attack were necessary.

Meanwhile, the Islamic community in BiH called on party leaders to not use this issue as fuel for creating tension, fear, and destabilization between nations as part of their respective political agendas.
