Rahul Baba wanted peanuts, everyone wanted to pay
Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Friday had to pass through the choc-a-bloc Kharegaon Toll Plaza before heading towards a Bhiwandi court for a personal appearance. Like all good Mumbaikars, Gandhi bought two packets of peanuts worth Rs 20 from a street vendor. As a member of his SPG detail hurried to pay the vendor, Gandhi stopped him and fished out a ten-rupee note from his pocket. The aide sitting next to him paid the other tenner.

Though the Supreme Court had on Thursday exempted him from making personal appearance, Gandhi was in Bhiwandi to attend court proceedings in a defamation suit filed by a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh worker for allegedly making comments to the effect that the RSS killed Mahatma Gandhi during an election rally on March 6, 2014. “I had made a commitment that I would come and I am fulfilling that. I am here because I respect the judiciary,” he told reporters while leaving the court. - Pictures: Anil Shinde
