Snatchers rob ETO, 2 held in separate incidents

Snatching instances are giving nightmares to local residents with more and more incidents coming to the light.

In the latest incident, an Excise and Taxation Officer, Kirpal Singh, was looted by two unidentified armed motorcycle-borne youths when he was having an evening walk in a park near his home in the New Amritsar area.

They took away his gold 'karah' weighing around 50 gm besides his expensive mobile phone. Kirpal Singh stated to the police that the accused took out a pistol and threatened to shoot him in case he did not hand over his gold 'karah' and mobile phone. He said he was scared and handed over the 'karah' and the mobile phone to the snatchers. He said the accused had covered their faces with handkerchiefs and were in mid- twenties. His mobile phone was later recovered from a roadside. The police have registered a case in this regard.

Meanwhile, two snatchers snatched the purse of an English teacher who works in a private institute here. The victim was identified as Gagandeep Kaur, who originally hails from Kathiala village, Dera Baba Nanak (Gurdaspur) and lives here in a paying guest facility near Khalsa College. She stated to the police that she was going towards the Putlighar area with her friends when the two accused snatched her purse near Khalsa College for Women.

However, the accused were nabbed by onlookers. They were identified as Manjinder Singh of Roriwala village, Hari Ke Pattan (Tarn Taran), and Gurpreet Singh of Pakhupura village (Tarn Taran). They were later handed over to the police which registered a case in this regard.
