Golden Bridge jammed again

SURAT/BHARUCH: Traffic came to a screeching halt on the Golden Bridge over Narmada on Thursday morning, leaving hundreds stranded.
Queues of vehicles stretching up to three km on both sides of the bridge were witnessed. Office goers as usual bore the maximum brunt of the jam.
However, large number of policemen came out to implement the 40 km speed limit on both Golden and Sardar bridge by 8am and situation started easing a little.
Slowly but steadily traffic started clearing and vehicles moved in orderly fashion from both the bridges.
Bharuch district administration has restricted the speed limit to 40 km per hour from area starting from Narmada chowkdy to Nabipur chowkdy on NH8 and from 5 km on both sides of Golden bridge.
Rash drivers trying to overtake other vehicles were stopped and reprimanded by the police. They were issued stern warnings by the cops.
"On the first day of imposition, we are not going to fine anyone but just going to warn them to maintain the speed limit and not overtake. If they are caught again, they will be fined," a police official said.
During peak hours on the first day of implementation of traffic rules, it took Kaushik Dave, an advertising agency employee, around 40 minutes to cross distance of 9 km via Golden Bridge.
"There is no problem if the traffic moves steadily. But if there is a jam, it is very frustrating," he said.
