Sushila Birla School gears up for expansion, gets new building

In keeping with the challenges of the changing times, expansion of the school to facilitate upgradation of its existing infrastructure had become imperative for Sushila Birla Girls’ School.

An inauguration ceremony to mark the opening of the new school building took place on Saturday, May 02, 2015.

The five-storey new building has ample floor space and a spacious basement.

The brand new building currently holds 60 new classrooms.

A vibrant ceremony was held at the Centre For Performing Arts.

U.S. Consul General, Ms. Helen LaFave, was the Chief Guest of the event. Also present at the event were distinguished guests & dignitaries. To start, Mr. S.K. Birla, Chairman, Vidya Mandir Society, welcomed the dignitaries and other guests and invited Chief Guest -US Consul General, Ms. Helen LaFave & Guest of Honour - Mr. & Mrs. Todi to light the ceremonial lamp.Mr.Birla shared the vision and mission of the school. He thereafter introduced the Chief Guest & Guest of honour and requested them to address the audience with their valuable insights. Ms. Helen LaFave, who began her assignment as Consul General in Kolkata, India in August 2013, gave a speech on the rights of the girl child.

She said she felt very honoured to be here in Calcutta, in the presence of such amazing students and the Birla family who have been responsible for uplifting women and transforming feminist projects. Post Ms LaFave’s speech, Mrs. Nisha Todi, the Guest of Honour as well as a proud mother of 3 daughters, who studied in this school, took everyone through her experience and journey with the school. The students of Sushila Birla Girls’ school performed a fusion dance. . The performances were heartily applauded by the audience. The programme ended with the vote of thanks by the Headmistress of Sushila Birla Girls School.
