1. Kumar’s Mathematics test has 120 questions consisting of 20 geometry, 40 algebra and 60 arithmetic questions. Kumar answered 40% of geometry, 60% of algebra and 70% of arithmetic correctly, but unfortunately failed because he failed to secure 75% of the total questions correct. How many more questions did he need to answer correctly to pass the test?
Answer: 4
Explanation: 40% of 20 = 8, 60% of 40 = 24 and 70% of 60 = 42. Hence the number of questions answered correctly = 20 + 24 + 42 = 86. Now 75% of 120 = 90. Hence the additional number of questions that Kumar had to answer correctly to pass the test = 90 - 86 = 4.
