Girl approached by man at soccer fields, Hopkinton police say

Hopkinton police are investigating an incident Wednesday night in which a girl attending a soccer game was approached by an older man in a dark gray car.

The girl ran away and told her coach at the Fruit Street Athletic Complex, police said in a statement.

At 6:40 p.m., police received a call from the vice president of Hopkinton Youth Soccer reporting the suspicious incident.

Police searched the area and local restaurants but the vehicle, possibly a Honda Accord, was not located. The man was described as a white male, in his 50s, with a thin build, gray hair, wearing sunglasses.

Police encouraged parents to speak to their children about strangers and what to do when approached by one.

Children should know how to identify strangers, should know that strangers do not ask for help from children, and should run away from strangers to tell an adult, police said.

Police asked residents who have any information on the matter to call Detective Gregg DeBoer at 508-497-3401 Ext. 1279 or the station’s crime tip line at 508-497-9785.
