He is the perfect family guy on the small tube. From playing a loving husband in Kasamh Se to a doting father in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, Ram Kapoor has carved a niche for himself on TV. But, the actor never hesitates to experiment with his roles on the 70mm. And, his upcoming film Kuch Kuch Locha Hai opposite Sunny Leone is no different.

The actor plays a married guy who falls for a Bollywood actress. Kapoor says that it is a conscious decision to look for different roles in films so that he can grow as an actor. "I want to break free from my image on TV. On the small tube, we get to play the same role for years and trying new things in films is the only way I can balance myself as an actor. It is important to grow as an actor. I need to experiment with myself."

In the last five years, Ram Kapoor has appeared in innumerable films and has proved his acting mettle. Be it tickling the funny bones in Mere Dad Ki Maruti or playing the baddie in Agent Vinod, Kapoor has shown his versatility on screen by picking up interesting scripts.

"For me, script is the most important thing when I sign a film. At the same time, equally important are the people behind the project. You want to work with respected people," reveals Kapoor.

Kapoor adds that he signed Kuch Kuch Locha Hai since he could relate to the character. "I related to this subject as I grew up with these fantasies about actresses. Devang Dholakia (director) waited for a year for me to sign the film. I had no dates. He wanted to make a film with Sunny and me. I could easily relate to a man of my size fantasise about a glamourous actress. This is the USP of the film."

Kuch Kuch Locha Hai might have been touted as a family entertainer but the censor board's decision to give the film an A certificate has irked the actor. "We are disillusioned with the censor board's decision. I am shocked. I think we need to come together and take some action." But at the same time, the actor maintains that he isn't a big name in Bollywood and his voice alone cannot make a difference.

Kapoor doesn't shy away from admitting that the film's promos and songs are glamourous but at the same time he maintains that it is not a sex comedy.

"The promos and songs are glamorous but we are of the strong opinion that it is not an adult film. They should not have given it an A certificate. There are no below the belt jokes or punchlines. If it wasn't a family film, I would not have signed it," says Mere Dad Ki Maruti actor.

He further adds that an A certificate not just hampers the box office collections but it also hinders the chances of it being telecast on TV.

"Certificate makes difference to earnings. It's not just the box office collections but the satellite rights also get you moolah. And, an A certificate film neither finds a prime time slot on TV nor is sold at a high price," states the 41-year-old.

Directed by Devang Dholakia, Kuch Kuch Locha Hai will hit the screens on May 8.
