Accra, May 6, GNA - The Ghana Statistics Development Project (GSDP) on Wednesday donated 32 vehicles valued at more than GH₵4.1 million to its 10 implementing ministries, departments, and agencies (MDA's) in Accra.

The vehicles including 15 pick-up trucks, six cross country vans, one saloon car and 10 mobile registration vans were given out to support further improvements in the production, management and dissemination of statistics through the implementation of project activities.

Among the MDA's that received the vehicles were the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Trade and Industry, and Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.

The rest were the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, the Ghana Statistical Service, and the Births and Deaths Registry.

Dr Philomena Nyarko, the Government Statistician, said timely, reliable and quality statistics and indicators are the products of a well-coordinated National Statistical System that is well resourced to deliver the range of statistics that Ghana requires for policy decisions, hence the handing out of the vehicles.

'Vehicles, as we all know, play a major role in the production of statistics as they assist in mobility during field data collection," she said.

Dr Nyarko urged the various MDA's to put the vehicles into good use and maintain them to guarantee value for money.

She also encouraged chief directors of all MDA's to ensure that the vehicles are used by their sector statistics coordinators and their teams in the statistics, research and information management units to implement the GSDP activities.
