Mao Gate (Senapati district): The
United Naga Council (UNC) has urged the Centre to expedite the ongoing peace talks with NSCN (IM) and called on the Nagas to keep on fighting till they achieve their political rights.
Addressing a function on the fifth death anniversary of two Naga student protesters killed in police firing at Mao Gate in Senapati district about 100 km from
Imphal on Wednesday, UNC president Gaidon Kamei said there would be no peace unless the Naga political solution based on the uniqueness of Naga history and situation is addressed.
The two students were among protesters who had staged a rally at Mao town to denounce the
state government’s decision to prevent NSCN (IM) general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah from visiting his ancestral village in Ukhrul district on May 6, 2010.
UNC is campaigning for an alternative arrangement (AA) outside the purview of the
Manipur government pending the Naga political settlement.
The Centre is playing with the sentiments of Nagas for the last 17 years without bringing any logical conclusion, Gaidon said. “It is nothing but the lack of commitment and political will on the part of the Centre,” he added.
Stating that the new government under
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said the Naga solution would be worked out on a time-bound manner, the UNC president exuded confidence that a logical conclusion would be reached at soon.
