Devagiri inching towards victory

Team secures 138 points against Farook College’s 126

St. Joseph’s College, Devagiri, inched towards lifting the overall championship by pushing rivals Farook College, Feroke, to the second place when the Inter-zone Arts Festival of the University of Calicut continued into night on the final day on Wednesday.

The Devagiri team had secured 138 points against Farook College’s 126 when a couple of items remained. Government Victoria College, Palakkad, was in the third position with 76 points.

The last day saw huge crowds turning up to witness the competitions held on the university campus at Tenhipalam. Devagiri’s victory will be a recapturing of the championship from Farook College. Last year, Farook College had lifted the title by pushing Devagiri and Victoria to second and third positions respectivley. In the 2013 edition, Devagiri had won the championship.

Sree Neelakanta Government Sanskrit College, Pattambi, won the first prize in Malayalam drama. When K. Amrita of the college was adjudged best actress, K.P. Ravidas from Government Victoria College, Palakkad, became the best actor. While NSS College, Nemmara, won the first prize in Chendamelam and Panchavadyam, Mercy College, Palakkad, won the first prize in Koodiyattam. K.C. Vivek of Farook College, Feroke, won the first prize in Oriental Violin. Gopika Balagopal of Vidya Academy of Science and Technology, Thalakkottukara, won the first prize in Western Violin. T.K. Devika of NSS College, Akathethara, Palakkad, won the first prize in Ottanthullal.
