MADURAI: The additional district sessions court VI in Madurai recently acquitted a Sri Lankan refugee J S Rohan Savarimuthu and his parents Jacob Savarimuthu and Mary Agnes from an alleged harassment case, which was filed by his wife.
Rohan's wife, Mary Praveena had lodged a complaint before the Ommachikulam police in Madurai stating that he was actually a Sri Lankan citizen, but had hid that fact by claiming to be an Indian citizen and married her.

Based on the complaint filed by her, police registered a case against them under the Indian Penal Code, Indian Passports Act, and Foreigners Act etc.
The judicial magistrate court II, Madurai which tried the case delivered judgment on November 25, convicting them under various sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 465 (punishment for forgery), and 465 read with Section 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) alone of the IPC.
Aggrieved over it, they filed an appeal before the additional district sessions court VI, Madurai, which heard the concerned sides and passed orders allowing their appeal and acquitting them.
