Rajon Rondo’s time in Dallas was nothing short of a disaster, and even Rondo’s Connect Four game suffered with the Mavericks. Rondo’s skill at Connect Four is legendary, but Dirk Nowitzki revealed in an interview with the Dallas Morning News that Rondo was once beaten by Charlie Villanueva, and the upset led to a minor incident in the locker room.

“Before the game, one of his first games, one of the Mavs’ employees brought a Connect Four over and it was just sitting there. I think Charlie [Villanueva] played him one time real quick. I walked by, it was before the game and everyone has their routines, and I walk by and Charlie put the last one in to beat him. So it was like a melee back there. They were yelling and screaming. And I was like, ‘What’s going on here? It’s gameday. We have a game in less than an hour.’ That was huge for Charlie. He let Rondo hear that for the next couple of weeks for sure.”

Rondo has explained in the past that he started playing the game as a child and it simply clicked with him.

“I started playing a long time ago when I had to be home before the streetlights came on. I would go home on the porch and invite a couple friends over, and play Connect Four until it was time to go in.”
