Cine workers call off ‘indefinite strike’

The workers were protesting against inadequate and delayed payment of wages and lack of regulated working hours. In accordance to the functioning of the association, the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the producers’ associations is renewed every five years. Up for renewal again in February this year, the MoU by FWICE demanded a 50 per cent pay hike. The producers were unwilling to step beyond 10 per cent.

“The workers will now receive a 13 per cent hike in first year, followed by 11 per cent in each consecutive year for three years. The hike in the fifth year will be 12 per cent,” said Kamlesh Pandey, president of FWICE. The two parties will sign the MoU before June 20.
