Angels rookie Carlos Perez hits walk-off home run in MLB debut

After parts of eight seasons in the minors spanning three different Major League organizations, catcher Carlos Perez played in his first big-league game for the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday. He singled in his first at-bat, then hit a game-winning walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth to push his club past the Mariners, 5-4.

Though sometimes rookies face the silent treatment after their first Major League, the Angels mobbed Perez at the plate then showered him with water and gatorade. Maybe that’s a missed opportunity, as a walk-off silent treatment would go down as the greatest of all time, but it at least made for some awesome pictures:

Perez is the first MLB player to hit a walk-off homer in his debut since some 20-year-old kid the Marlins called up straight from Class AA ball 12 years ago.
