PUNE : The Dattwadi police have arrested five suspects for their alleged involvement in the murder of Nitin Dattatreya Kasbe (35), a resident of Sinhagad and a criminal on police records on May 3.
The police have identified the suspects as Suraj alias Max Sanjay Ghugute (19), Shravan Ashok Burungale (22), Chetan Machhindra Randive (23), Chandrakant Basappa Kamble (22) and Vinayak Randive (22), all from Sinhagad road.

Sambhaji Nimbalkar, senior inspector of the Dattawadi police station, said that around 10 pm on Sunday, Nitin along with his brother Anil, mother and sister were at the ‘Urs’ in Ambil Odha Vasahat. “Nitin was sitting along the road side and was wearing head phones. Around 10.30 pm, a gang of about eight people brandishing sharp weapons approached him. Before Nitin realised what was happening, they started assaulting him. He sustained severe injuries in the attack. Thereafter, the suspects fled towards Sinhagad road,” Nimbalkar said.
He said Nitin’s brother and mother rushed him to a private hospital, where he succumbed to injuries during treatment. “He had a case of murder registered against him, but was acquitted by the court,” Nimbalkar said.
Nimbalkar said that Nitin’s brother Anil had given names of the suspects involved in the murder. “We have arrested five of the eight suspects on a tip-off. We have launched a search to trace the remaining suspects,” Nimbalkar said.
