Isle of Man TT: Injured Peter Hickman sets comeback target

Injured Lincolnshire rider Peter Hickman is targeting the Isle of Man TT for his return to action after being ruled out of the North West 200.

Hickman broke two vertebrae in his neck after crashing at 150mph in the third round of the British Superbikes series at Oulton Park on Saturday.

The Louth-based rider said his aim is to be "fully fit" for the Isle of Man.

Last year the 27-year-old set the fastest ever lap speed by a debutant at both the NW200 and TT races.

Hickman said the nature of his injuries meant it "simply isn't possible to ride" in the NW200 on 16 May.

Team owner Lee Hardy added: "It's deeply disappointing for Peter and everyone connected with the team that we'll be unable to take part in the North West 200 but his injuries from the crash on Saturday are a little bit worse than we first thought."

"The goal now is to support Peter as best as we can and ensure he gets the best possible medical support with the aim of being ready for the TT."

Last year Hickman set the fastest ever TT lap by a newcomer with a speed of 129.104mph on the final circuit of the Senior race as he finished 11th.
