Denied treatment, woman delivers on road in Jaunpur
VARANASI: A pregnant woman delivered a stillborn on road after allegedly being denied treatment at district women’s hospital in Jaunpur on Monday.DM Bhanu Chandra Goswami has ordered a probe into the matter. Reports said a pregnant woman, Usha Devi, wife of a daily wager Arjun Kumar of Hilali village, had labour pain three days back. She was taken to the community health centre (CHC) at Badlapur from where she was referred to the district women’s hospital in Jaunpur.

Arjun alleged that the doctor at the hospital demanded Rs 12,000 for the delivery. Since he was not in a position to pay, he returned home. On Monday when Usha experienced intense pain, he moved her to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Buxa. But before reaching the PHC, the women gave birth to a dead baby on road near Lakhnipur village. Later, she was admitted to the PHC.Taking the incident seriously, the DM asked the chief medical officer to investigate the matter. “The CMO is investigating the matter. He met the woman and took her statement. Stern action would be taken against those who are found guilty,” the DM told TOI over phone on Tuesday.
