Woman cop hangs herself from fan in Manimajra

A 24-year-old woman constable committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her rented accommodation at Darshani Bagh locality of Manimajra on Tuesday.

CHANDIGARH: A 24-year-old woman constable committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her rented accommodation at Darshani Bagh locality of Manimajra on Tuesday.
Saroj Devi was appointed in the wireless wing of the Chandigarh police. She was deputed at Manimajra police station.
Raj Singh was in the house when his daughter locked herself in her room and took the extreme step around 6.45 am.
"Saroj told me she did not feel like cooking. I decided to bring food from market. She gave me an apple and went in her room. When she did not respond to my calls, a neighbour spotted her hanging from a window," said Raj Singh, an agriculturist and a resident of Karnal.
Saroj was rushed to Government Multi-specialty Hospital (GMH), Sector 16, where doctors declared her brought dead.
Police claimed Saroj was under depression. She was taking treatment from GMH. Her medical record was recovered from her room. Sources said Saroj was also upset owing to her marriage proposals. Two months back, two juveniles had snatched her cellphone. They were later arrested.
Saroj, who hailed from Karnal, joined Chandigarh police in 2010.
She is survived by her parents, three sisters and a younger brother.
