MUMBAI: The state wants young IITians to experiment with and participate in governance along with bureaucrats by putting in fresh and innovative ideas for effective execution. The application process is expected to open on Wednesday and will go on until May 15.
Every year, the state will recruit 15 fresh graduates from IITs, IIMs and other top engineering and technology institutes for a year to involve them in administrative matters to make governance more effective with younger, simplified and touching ideas.

After every 11 months or a year, the batch of 15 will be replaced by another set of new graduates. Over a period, if the experiment yields fruits, the number of students in the batch may be increased to 30, said a source.
Top officials with the chief minister’s office and state government’s top four agencies—CIDCO, MMRDA, MIDC and MTDC—would scrutinize the students’ applications prior to online tests and interviews for final selection.
“We want younger ideas for effective governance, besides new energy to scientifically implement each of our schemes. This will also help the bureaucracy pick up ideas for faster implementation of developmental programmes. Our prime objective is to involve them in planning and executing infrastructure projects, renewable energy projects and watershed development programmes,” said a source. The first batch is expected to be in over the next couple of months.

Through an advertisement, to be floated soon, the state wants students from IITs, IIMs, government engineering colleges, NITs, JBIMS, VJTI and VNIT to participate. “For cream students, the pre-condition of a year’s experience with top corporates or industries can be relaxed,” a source pointed out.
The programme has been initiated by none other than CM Devendra Fadnavis under the ‘Mukhyamantri Internship Programme 2015’. Graduates below 25 years will be able to apply for their appointment for 11 months with Rs 20,000 as stipend to work closely with the government.
“They will need a year’s experience of working with renowned corporates, industries or institutions,” said a state government official. Aspirants can visit the website: http://oasis.mkcl.org/gomcmip2015 and apply online by 8pm till May 15. Students can also call on 9326552525 for inquiries,” said an advertisement.
