A minority institution in the Capital, which had implemented the Sixth Pay Commission very late, and had refused to pay the arrears to teachers in two of its schools, has been directed by the Delhi High Court to either pay up within two weeks or face contempt charges.
A Bench of Justice Gita Mittal and Justice P.S Teji took note of the amount of arrears that needed to be paid and compared this with the amount of the fixed deposits that each of those had.
Guru Harikishan Public School’s branch at India Gate and Vasant Vihar had been directed way back in 2013 to pay the teachers, but had failed to do so.
The Bench also reprimanded the president and the general secretary of the schools for not following the earlier directive of the Single Judge.
“The respondents are not complying with the judgment of the learned Single Judge despite availability of adequate funds in their accounts. We have been repeatedly adjourning the mater on the request of the counsel for the respondents that efforts are being made to ensure payment of arrears of the Sixth Pay Commission,” said the court.
