A local court on Tuesday extended the police custody of the 54-year-old army officer by two more day 7 in connection with the rape case of a mentally challenged girl in the Deolali Camp area on May 30.

NASHIK: A local court on Tuesday extended the police custody of the 54-year-old army officer by two more day 7 in connection with the rape case of a mentally challenged girl in the Deolali Camp area on May 30.
Atul Zende, the assistant commissioner of police, Zone II, said, “The court was convinced that the investigation is on the right track. We had, however, demanded seven-days custody of the accused Colonel Vinod Sawhney.” He added, “The rape survivor is in hospital and her statement will be registered before the court.”
Col Sawhney, attached to the Artillery Centre Nashik Road camp, had allegedly raped woman living in an apartment next to his bungalow at Sansari near Deolali Camp.
The officer has two sons and a daughter and stayed with his wife at his bungalow in Sansari. Three days before the incident, his wife had left for Delhi and he was alone on the day of the incident.
