With the Moga molestation case forcing the Punjab government to order Orbit Transportation buses off the road, AAP MLA from Bijwasan, Devendra Sehrawat, has written to Lt-Governor Najeeb Jung, seeking police action against an allegedly illegal inter-state bus service operating from the Indira Gandhi International Airport in the capital.
Claiming that the bus service was similar to the Orbit bus service in Punjab, Sehrawat alleged that he was “told that the ownership is the same”.
Sehrawat’s letter reads, “The bus service is being operated from the IGI airport (located in Bijwasan constituency). It is similar to the Orbit bus service of Punjab and I am told that the ownership is also the same.”
“The bus service is supposedly a contract carrier (permitted to carry groups of passengers), but it is being used as a stage carrier (issuing tickets and carrying individual passengers). This service is exclusive, monopolistic and illegal. It is able to remain operational because the agencies responsible to prevent such activities — Delhi Police, traffic police,
Transport department etc. — have been looking the other way and facilitating the activity for obvious considerations,” he alleged.
In Moga, a minor girl died after being allegedly molested and thrown off a running bus. Police have arrested four persons, including the bus driver, conductor and helper.
