Low-gear infrastructure development in Sanand discussed
AHMEDABAD: Realizing the slow progress in Sanand infrastructure projects, a review meeting was called by the coordination committee of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority, on Tuesday. Nearly Rs 100 crore worth of projects are in various stages of implementation, civic authorities say.
Over the past few years, Sanand town has attracted almost Rs 29,000 crore worth of investments.
The area required a robust solid-waste management system and a drainage network. But these facilities are yet to be established.
A major focus of discussion in the meeting was water supply demand. The present water supply is 6 MLD against the demand of 7.0 MLD. An ambitious 24x7 water supply network was planned for Sanand, but that has been delayed for quite some time now. “There is an intra-town disparity in piped water supply both in terms of population and area coverage in Sanand,” says a senior AMC official. “The status of water metering has not been resolved either.”
Specialized health facilities are also lacking. Amenities like community centres, crematoria, milk booths, religious institutions were also cited as requirements for the town.
