Soon, all chair coaches of Kalka Shatabdi to have LCD screen behind every seat

Confirming the development, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (New Delhi division) G M Singh said, “We have already started the process of installing and affixing LCD screens in eight chair car coaches of the train. Installing the system in the entire rake is expected to be completed by the end of this month and passengers can then use the service free of cost.”

Neeraj Sharma, chief public relations officer, Northern Railway, said, “The two executive class coaches had been selected on a trial basis for conducting technical trials and getting passenger feedback for successful implementation of the project. Following the positive outcome, the Northern Railways decided to expand the service.”

Incidentally, the infotainment service has received a large number of complaints in the passenger feedback form, with most passengers complaining about the unavailability of headphones that give access to audio facility.

However, Singh said, “Due to the possibility of spreading ear infection through re-circulation and low manpower for collection and sanitisation, we have decided against supplying of headphones.”

“Currently, the Railways is exploring a proposal where a passenger deposits a particular sum of money as security for the accessory, which can be redeemed after the journey. However, this proposal seems unlikely to be cleared,” he added.
