Swiss 777-300ER

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) has finalised a $990m firm order with Boeing for three 777-300ER (extended range) aircraft.

The order was previously posted on Boeing’s orders and deliveries website as being from an unidentified customer.

The latest agreement comes after an order by SWISS in 2013 for six 777-300ERs. The new aircraft will facilitate the Swiss flag-carrier’s long-haul fleet renewal programme.

Said to be the fuel and cost-efficient aircraft in its category, the 777-300ER aircraft is a twin-aisle aircraft and can accommodate 386 passengers in a standard three-class configuration. The aircraft can travel up to 7,825nm on non-stop routes.

"The new aircraft will facilitate the Swiss flag-carrier’s long-haul fleet renewal programme."

Boeing Commercial Airplanes European sales vice-president Todd Nelp said: "SWISS’s latest order for additional aeroplanes is a testament to the unrivalled economics of the 777-300ER as the carrier continues to renew its long-haul fleet.

"The 777-300ER is the perfect platform for SWISS to showcase its exceptional customer offering and remain at the forefront of international travel."

Part of the Lufthansa Group, SWISS serves 106 destinations in 49 countries with flights from Zurich, Geneva and Basel. It operates a fleet of 95 aircraft and carries more than 16 million passengers a year.

In a separate statement, Boeing said it has delivered Cathay Pacific Airways’ 50th 777-300ER aircraft.

Cathay Pacific currently has 67 777s in its fleet, including 12 777-300s and five 777-200 airliners. The carrier is planned to receive three 777-300ERs this year.
