Airport admn office gets new building
BHUBANESWAR: The administrative office of Biju Patnaik International Airport here will start functioning in the new state-of-the-art building from next month. The regional office of Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), known as Regional Airworthiness Office (RAO), will also operate from the same building, airport sources said.
Earlier, the RAO was functioning in a separate building at Ganga Nagar in the city.
The new building spread over 2,400 sq metre will have Air Traffic Control office, engineering wing, navigation centre and finance and human resources cells.
Airport director Sharad Kumar said carriers no longer have to go through the time-consuming stages to get airworthiness certificate for aircraft from RAO. "They can now get approval for flight operation and airworthiness at one place," he said.
The current administrative office will be converted into a cargo hub, he added.
Since the hub will be built in a modular pattern, using prefabricated material, the current structure may be dismantled, the sources said.
"The new building can accommodate more employees if required once international operations begin. For cargo handling, more staff will be recruited and office space created for them," the director added.
