NASHIK: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has planned to set up eight sub-stations in the city considering the future demand for power consumption, which is rapidly increasing.
"We have identified the need for eight new sub-stations to provide power to the consumers. We have already executed the Infrastructure-II plan and most of the works are either finished or underway," MSEDCL superintendent engineer RD Chavan said.

The city is growing in all directions. The growth in housing and commercial sector will lead to demand for electricity. The MSEDCL is already preparing for augmentation of power supply for the areas where the demand is likely to pick up in the next three years.
"Considering the growth and possible demand in the next five years, the MSEDCL has proposed eight sub-stations. The land for the sub-stations has either been finalised or in the final stage of handing over, but we are facing a problem near the Bhonsala Military School area," Chavan said.
"There are areas where laying of power lines is costlier, considering the length of the power lines. This results in transmission loss and also increase the maintenance cost. For effective transmission the feeder length has to be shorter and hence the MSEDCL has proposed the sub-stations. These substations will also improve maintenance of power lines," Chavan added.
The areas where the sub-stations will come up include Gangapur Road, Satpur (towards Trimbakeshwar), CIDCO and MIDC, Aurangabad Road and Vadzire on the Nashik-Sinnar road.

"All these areas are on the periphery of the city. The locations have been identified considering the demand for power in the future. We have decided to take the land into our custody and start construction of the sub- stations when required," the officer said.
The places where the MSEDCL needs land include the Gangapur Road and the CIDCO and it is being finalized. Land is also required near the Bhosala Military School. "There is some government land that belongs to the Nashik Municipal Corporation and other agencies... We are in dialogue with all the agencies and are positive of striking a deal. The payment will be made as per the ready reckonor," the official said.
He added that the areas including Belgaon Dhaga, MIDC, Shivaji Wadi (Aurangabad Road), Nilgiri Baug, Gangapur Road, Vadzire were also being finalised. "There are minor issues that have to be sorted out before acquiring the land in these areas. Among these, priority will be given to the sub-station at Gangapur Road and Aurangabad Road."
