Free medical insurance for 2,500 BPL families

The operations of the hospital with eight clusters had been stabilized after the soft launch six months ago

KOCHI: The Aster Medcity will provide free medical insurance to 2,500 families belonging to the category of BPL families in the Cheranalloor Village on the outskirts of Kochi.

The scheme covering 10,000 persons has been announced as part of the formal inauguration of the first phase of Aster Medcity, a 650-bedded hospital located in the
village.

The entire staff members of Aster Medcity will also take a pledge to donate their organs marking the event, Dr Azad Moopen Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare told reporters here on Monday.

Former President A.P.J Abdul Kalam will inaugurate the hospital in the presence of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and several of his cabinet colleagues.

The health ministers of Sri Lanka and Maldives and senior officials of the health department in UAE would also attend the function, he said.

The operations of the hospital with eight clusters had been stabilized after the soft launch six months ago, said Dr. Harish Pillai, CEO Aster Medcity.

“We have a patient inflow of over 60,000 in the past six months and most of the beds are fully occupied these days”, he said.

Dr Pillai said that Aster DM Healthcare Ltd, the company promoting the venture, may go for the second phase of the project soon to cater to the increase in demand.
