Officials say young sandal trees were of no value.

Three young sandalwood trees were reportedly found cut down from a patta land belonging to former DMK minister Durai Murugan at Yelagiri Hills.

According to forest department personnel of Tirupattur Forest Division, Durai, the watchman of the land, had submitted a complaint to the Tirupattur Forest Range office on Monday that three sandalwood trees were found cut and missing from the land at Mangankollai Pudur, Yelagiri Hills.

“We received a complaint from the watchman of the land that the three trees were found cut and smuggled from the land. These were young trees of 30 to 40 cm width. We are conducting inquiry and have also asked them to file a complaint with the police,” said an officer of the Forest Department. Personnel of the Tirupattur Range were also deputed to inspect the spot. The officials said the young trees were of no value.
