If ‘An idea can change your life’ according to the slogan of a company, an idea of two youth from remote Narayankhed area ‘can save your life’ by preventing the occurrence of accidents.

Meet Diddiwar Shiva Kumar of Kangti and Ramesh of Kurmpalli village in Maharashtra who run motorcycle mechanic shop at Kangti mandal headquarters, a remote area in Naryanakhed Assembly constituency. The road near their shop takes a sharp turn and they were witness to many accidents of which several could have been avoided. They have seen many motorists taking the turn without taking off the side-stand, resulting in serious accidents.

After seeing this they have hit upon an idea which could prevent accidents. Immediately they started working on a design that could prevent such accidents and within three hours, literally, they came out with a design that ensures prevention of such accidents. They gave power connection to the stand which would automatically switch off the ignition if the vehicle’s side stand was on. Even after repeated kicks it will not be possible to start the vehicle. The ignition will be powered only after the stand is lifted and set at the right place. First they tried the experiment on their vehicle which yielded excellent result. Now they are extending this facility to others’ vehicles. The cost of the gadget they designed is only Rs. 150. So far they have fixed this gadget to more that 20 motorcycles.

“We hope that our effort would save people from accidents. As the gadget is not costly motor cyclists can have it without much problem,” Mr. Shiva Kumar told The Hindu.
