Theft

Gold ornaments worth over Rs.50 lakh and cash to the tune of Rs.2.6 lakh were stolen. According to sources, City Police Commissioner H. Venkatesh has entrusted Deputy Commissioner (Law and Order) K. Sanjaykumar Gurudin with the operation since Mr. Sanjaykumar is familiar with the area, having had Jharkhand under his jurisdiction when he was with the Lucknow branch of the National Investigation Agency. Though both police officers refused to divulge details about the operation, sources said a team from the city police would leave for Sahibgunj on Tuesday. Mr. Sanjaykumar has reportedly discussed the issue with the Jharkhand police. A police team that attempted to nab the burglars from Sahibgunj had to return empty-handed after opposition from the prople there.
