Calicut University Inter-zone Arts Festival stage events get under way

Stage events of the Inter-zone Arts Festival of Calicut University began on the university campus at Tenhipalam on Monday. Minister for Home Ramesh Chennithala inaugurated the event.

In men’s Mapilapattu, Mohammed Fayis Ummer from Kerala Varma College, Thrissur, won the first prize. In women’s section, M. Bilshana from M.E.S. College, Mampad, won the first prize.

In Poorakkali, Girish K. and team from College of Applied Science, Vadakkenchery, won the first prize. In Kathaprasangam, Binny Varghese from Majlis Arts and Science College, Puramannoor, won the first prize.

In Malayalam light music, Vishnu Das from Chembai Memorial Government Music College, Palakkad, won the first prize. In the women’s category, Harsha from the same college won the first prize.

In men’s folk dance, Aswin from R.SM. SNDP Yogam Arts and Science College, Koyilandy, won the first prize. In the women’s category, Riya Ramesh from Government College, Madappally, won the first prize.

Theatre event

In English drama, Anusree and team from Zamorin’s Guruvayurappan College, Kozhikode, won the first prize.

In English story writing, Karishma Nikita Ramesh from Government Engineering College, Kozhikode, won the first prize.

In floral carpet competition, K.M. Gopika, Rishin Ganesh and H. Shibin Das from R.S.M. SNDP College, Koyilandy, won the first prize.

Even though curtain rose on arts event on Saturday, events were yet to enliven the campus. The organisers said that there would be much more enthusiasm and response from the crowd in the next two days. The event will conclude on Wednesday.
