JAIPUR: A certificate course on road safety will be introduced in schools and colleges on voluntary basis in a bid to minimize accidents involving students from the coming session. The module is being prepared by the Centre For Road Safety, Sardar Patel University of Police Security and Criminal Justice, Jodhpur.
The director general of police and director of Centre for Road Safety, Manoj Bhatt chaired a conference on the Role of Educational Institutions in Road Safety held at police headquarters in Jaipur on Monday.
The meeting was attended by heads of educational institutes, traffic police department and members of Muskaan NGO aimed at putting a check on the road accidents through awareness programmes, strict regulations from educational institutes and involvement of youth in roads safety campaigns.
“This certificate course is of 40 hours’ duration. The course contents will include observation and case studies, field visits to police station, neurosurgery wards and training with traffic cops,” said Prerna Singh, coordinator, Centre for Road Safety. The Centre for Road Safety and Muskaan NGO have together decided to impart training on traffic rules and safety to school teachers.
“Teachers should be capable of training parents and students. They should also know how to engage students in activities related to road safety to minimize accidents,” said Mridul Bhasin, founder of Muskaan NGO.
Bhatt formed a core committee from among the participants to generate content for road safety which can be used in every school and college across the state. “The content has to be interesting and unique so that it touches the core of students. It should reach all schools before the beginning of the new session in July,” said Bhatt.
