39 new police chowkis put on hold due to lack of manpower
JAIPUR: The police department had recently identified areas where rampant cases of illegal trafficking of cows and slaughter were reported. The department had also proposed 39 new police outposts in these areas. So far, it has been a non-starter in the absence of adequate manpower needed for it. Though the police department had asked the finance department to sanction extra manpower, the latter refused saying fresh recruitments will take much time.
According to state police headquarters sources, 39 police outposts (chowki) were proposed in the border districts of the state. "These included some police posts in Dausa, Bharatpur, Karauli and Dholpur. We had asked for extra manpower to be deputed here on the basis of three-shifts, however the finance department has not given a nod to it," said a senior officer of the state police headquarters on Monday.
Police said that after identifying 39 police posts they had written to the finance department for sanctioning of posts with at least 12 policemen in each chowki. They would be deputed on the basis of three shifts per day. "Their job would be to patrol and closely watch the vehicles passing through these areas. We had urged them to have four policemen each in one shift for every post. However, we were told that since fresh recruitments will take more time, sanction can't be given," said a senior police officer.
The state police headquarters, under this scenario, has asked the inspector general of police and superintendent of police concerned to take stringent measures against illegal trafficking and slaughtering of cows. "We have asked the IG and SP concerned to take stringent measures against illegal trafficking and slaughtering of cows," said Pankaj Singh, additional director general (crime).
