George asks Congress to dump Chandy
KOZHIKODE: Former chief whip P C George has asked the Congress to dump Oommen Chandy and bring another capable leader to the post of chief minister.
George told a news conference here on Sunday that no one expected Chandy to relinquish the post on his own. "Chandy, who had toppled K Karunakaran and his one-time political guru A K Antony, has become the self-declared high command.
If the Congress wants the UDF government to continue, it should seriously think of changing Chandy."
He said the mass contact programme of the chief minister was a fraud. "He is acting like a king and distributing money from the government treasury."
Meanwhile, George had a meeting with Sunni leader Kanthapuram Aboobacker Musaliyar at Markaz, Karanthur on Sunday morning. George said Kathapuram had extended all support to his campaign against corruption.
He also had a meeting with Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) leader Nazarudeen Elamaram. George said there were 91 organisations in the campaign against corruption. The test dose of the new dispensation will be seen in the Aruvikkara by-election.
"I had detailed discussions with SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellapalli Natesan and similar discussions will be held with many others in future too," he said.
