Indian Youth Congress (YC) activists staged a protest in the paddy fields of Periyambalam, near Kondotty, on Sunday, registering their solidarity with the country’s farmers.

Guarding field

Holding farm implements, the Youth Congress activists staged a symbolic guarding of the paddy field.

The protest titled “guarding the paddy fields” evoked curiosity of a large crowd. Inaugurating the protest staged under the banner of the Malappuram parliamentary committee of the party, Youth Congress national general secretary S.K. Ardhanari said the Bharatiya Janata Party minister who described farmer suicide as an act of cowardice should be exiled.

Calls it a shame

Mr. Ardhanari criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for conducting foreign trips even when poor peasants were committing suicide in the country. “Mr. Modi is a shame to our country,” he said.

Youth Congress parliamentary committee president Riyas Mukkoli presided. Youth Congress leaders P.R. Rahil Nath, Fatima Roshna, T. Vanaja, N. Achu, C.N. Brijesh Kumar, Jaisal Elamaram, Nasar Parappur, Nisar Pulikkal, P. Nidheesh, and Riyas Omanoor spoke.
