May 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - Chandigarh:

Tension prevailed in Tigara village of Haryana’s Yamunanagar district on Sunday following a clash between members of two communities over the construction of a sports stadium, prompting the authorities to deploy heavy security in the area.

Members of one group torched vehicles parked outside the houses of the other in the village on Saturday night, the police said adding eight fire brigade teams had to be rushed in as several immovable properties were also set ablaze.

An attempt to attack a religious place was also made, but was foiled by the other community.

“Despite reaching a compromise on Saturday over the construction of the stadium, both (groups) indulged in arson on Saturday night,” a police official said.

Heavy police force has been deployed in the village.

For last one year, the two communities have been at loggerheads over the construction of the stadium with one group claiming that it will take away their land. - PTI
