An official investigation is now underway after a tour guide in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province, scolded visitors for not shopping enough during the trip.

The video which went viral online shows the female guide in Kunming swearing at tourists simply because they did not do enough shopping during their trip.

In the 4-minute video posted by a tourist, the guide kept swearing at the tour group, saying she has been working for four days during this trip and she would cancel the next trip to the city of Sipsongpanna, or Xishuangbanna if everyone did not spend more than 3,000 yuan buying jewelry and other souvenirs.

She also said the travel agency will refuse to pay for the return ticket if anyone fails to meet the shopping standard.

It has been confirmed that the guide is from Kunming. But other information such as names of the tour guide and the travel agency as well as the date and time the video recorded still remain unknown.

Tour guides forcing visitors to go shopping is not uncommon in Yunnan. Forced consumption has been complained about for years.

Local officials say they will keep looking for relevant information and take strong measures against such behavior.
