2 held for teenager's murder in Surat

SURAT: The body of a 14-year-old boy was found from Khajod area of the city on Saturday evening. Manoj Rathod was missing since Thursday and his family had lodged a missing complaint on Friday. Police have detained two friends of the deceased for allegedly murdering him by crushing his head with a stone.
Initial investigation revealed that the deceased used to threaten the accused to extort small amounts of money.
A resident of security staff accommodation of a jewellery showroom on Ghod Dod Road, Rathod's body was found in the bushes. Police traced the body after questioning the two accused who had escaped to Mumbai after allegedly murdering Rathod on Thursday night.
Officials at Khatodara police station received information about the suspected movement of two teenagers Anand Savle, 18 and his 17-year-old minor friend. A resident of Azada Nagar in Bhatar area had seen the two in blood-stained clothes on Friday and alerted the police. On being brought back to Surat they confessed to committing the crime. "Police have recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. The boy was last seen leaving with the accused on a motorcycle. His parents identified the body and police are investigating the reason behind the murder," said inspector G R Patel of Khatodara police station.
Rathod, was working as mechanic in a garage near his residence and had left on a motorcycle with Savle at around 12.30pm on Thursday from the garage. He did not return home till late night after which his father Raju went to search for him. On failing to find his son, Raju contacted police on Friday evening and lodged a missing complaint in Umra police station.
Police investigation so far revealed that the deceased used to threaten Savle often with demand of small amounts of money. Police claimed that they are yet to investigate the case in detail.
