2 women die after being given injections in Rajindra Hospital

In an unusual incident, two women died at Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, after they were given injections for treatment for their respective ailments on Saturday.

PATIALA: In an unusual incident, two women died at Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, after they were given injections for treatment for their respective ailments on Saturday. Victim Ranjit Kaur, who died right on the operation table minutes after she given general anesthesia in the morning. The woman, Jaswinder Kaur, died after she was administered injection of penicillin by the hospital staff.
Sources said that Ranjit had a stone in her pancreas and her surgery was scheduled for Saturday morning. However, she died minutes after going into the operation theatre. On the other hand, Jaswinder was suffering from chronic heart ailment and was regularly getting injectable doses of penicillin. Sources said she was given penicillin injection on Friday and sent home, but was rushed to the hospital as her condition deteriorated. She too died in the hospital.
Medical superintendent Dr B L Bhardwaj confirmed both the deaths and said a probe would be ordered to ascertain why the victims died after they were given injections.
The clinical wing of Government Medical College, Patiala, Rajindra Hospital is the most reputed government hospital of south Punjab.
