ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- In the midst of all of the Detroit Lions draft news over the past three days, offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi dropped one more piece of information Saturday afternoon.

Riley Reiff will be staying at left tackle.

Considering the way the Lions have drafted so far -- two interior linemen, no tackles -- this shouldn’t come as a surprise. But it was a question throughout the past few months, and a potential move of Reiff to right tackle was even brought up by head coach Jim Caldwell and general manager Martin Mayhew.

But Reiff, who recently had his fifth-year option picked up by the Lions, will now enter his third season as Detroit’s starting left tackle.

“I think Riley Reiff is a heck of a left tackle,” Mayhew said last week before the draft. “I think he can play multiple positions. I feel very comfortable with him at left tackle or at right tackle. There’s been a lot of debate about where he is and where he’s going to be.

“I’m comfortable with him at left tackle, and I feel good about that. Really, I don’t think that anything is set in April or in May as to what we’re going to be doing in September, you know.”
