SURAT: Accepting that its welfare schemes are yet to reach the common man, a minister has started a unique social survey in his Katargam constituency. Observers say it is an attempt by BJP to connect with the common people ahead of the forthcoming civic body polls.
Minister of state for youth and cultural affairs, water resources and primary and secondary education Nanu Vanani has called for surveying 75,000 families where apart from socio-economic facts, details on 25 other parameters are being gathered by more than 3,000 BJP workers.

These workers would visit every home and gather data about the family's social, economic, educational and financial situation. They would also list their requirements, level of prosperity, special achievements, willingness to help others and contribution in various sectors along with special goals.
"We would start a portal and this data would be put on it. For example if someone needs a job and some one else is willing to help by providing employment, they can get in touch through this portal. This is our endeavor to help society," Vanani told TOI.
If successful, the survey would be replicated in other assembly constituencies of the city and the state. Named 'Angli Chindhya Nu Pun', it was launched by chief minister Anandiben Patel on Thursday night and is likely to be complete in a month.
"People are free to refuse to give details. But, it is to their advantage as we will help them get all the required help from government schemes which cover them. Many still don’t know about the schemes they can avail. BJP is a social movement and we want people to actively participate in it," Vanani said.
