Bengaluru FC, Rohan Bopanna contribute towards quake relief

The tragic events of the 7.8-magnitude Nepal earthquake have touched several athletes in Bengaluru who want to do their bit to help those affected by the disaster that has left more than 5,000 dead and several others injured.
Bengaluru FC, the city-based professional football club, has decided to donate the proceeds from ticket and merchandise sale from their May 3 game against Kolkata club East Bengal to quake relief efforts.
“The game will be played at Kanteerava Stadium on Sunday. Players and the club will also contribute to the proceeds before we send out a final amount to aid those affected by the disaster,”said Kunaal Majgaonkar, media manager of Bengaluru FC.
Tennis player Rohan Bopanna has already donated an undisclosed amount to the International Medical Corps through the Facebook campaign. “I cannot stress enough on the importance of giving back to society in any way I can, especially at a time of tragedy such as the Nepal earthquake. I was fortunate enough to play tennis, to be blessed by parents who taught me all the good I know and I think today it’s my turn to bring some happiness and smiles on people’s faces. Charity is something I love doing,” Bopanna said.
Golf player Sharmila Nicollet, who has donated an undisclosed amount to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, said: “I have contributed to the earthquake relief fund and I urge everyone else to do the same. If each one of us can contribute whatever we are capable of, we can make a difference to even one family at a time. I am sure the people of Nepal will come back stronger. My love and prayers are with them.”
