Many summers ago Prabhu Deva won over the Hindi belt audiences with his magical dance moves in the song “Muqabla Muqabla” in the film Hum Se Hai Muqabala . Since then he has been known for his electric speed on the dance floor. More recently a film ABCD – Any Body Can Dance showcased not only the actor’s dancing ability but also his charisma which was loved by the youngsters. Incidentally, it was India’s first ever 3D dance film and its fans have reason to be happy as the sequel to it is will be released in June 19. Besides Prabhu Deva, it stars Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead and has been produced by Disney India and directed by ace choreographer Remo D’Souza.

The film relates a real life story of a Mumbai-based dance group which finds global fame after winning the world hip-hop championship in Las Vegas. Disney India is planning to extend the cinematic experience to a television show on its youth channel Bindass; a dance inspired game and branded merchandise. Speaking on this, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Managing Director, Disney India, said: “Globally Disney has created some of the biggest franchises, and we are excited to have now developed our first truly local franchise with dance at its core. Along with witnessing the dance extravaganza on the big screen, fans can also own a piece of the film with cool ABCD merchandise.

We have tied-up with Voxpop clothing for an exclusive branded range of apparel and accessories around the movie.

In addition to this, Indiagames, Disney India’s gaming arm will be developing a rhythm-based game where fans can engage with their favourite movie characters and dance their feet off on their mobile phones.”

He adds, “Disney is about family and if you want to make a family entertainer, it should come straight from the heart. You have to have a love for it. I grew up watching movies. I watched every movie possible in the ‘70s and ‘80s. When Remo narrated the concept we were really impressed and went through it successfully, now we have the ABCD 2 and we would love to produce ABCD 3 also.”

Remo says, “ABCD as a concept is and will always remain close to my heart as it allowed me to explore my passion for direction, along with dance.

The phenomenal response to the film made me realize the significance of dance in the hearts and minds of audiences in India. With a promise of a television show, branded merchandise and a game, I am extremely delighted to be a part of this dance inspired franchise.”
