The Tigers propped up 273 for no loss at the close of day’s play at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium on Friday.

The previous record of 267 was held by Mohammad Ashraful and Mushfiqur Rahim in a fifth-wicket partnership against Sri Lanka in Galle, 2013.

Mushfiq cracked Bangladesh’s only double century in that match with Ashraful scoring 190.

Tamim (138 not out) and Kayes (132 not out) surpassed the highest opening stand for Bangladesh on their way to the record stand.

The same pair held the previous best of 224, which they scored against Zimbabwe in Chittagong last November. Both the batsmen scored centuries in that match too.

Bangladesh openers started their second innings under immense pressure with a deficit of 296 runs as Pakistan piled up a huge 628 in reply to Bangladesh’s 332.

Tamim and Kayes were aggressive in their approach and got the hosts off to a fascinating start as the duo maintained a run-rate of over 4.50 per over all through the day.

The previous highest partnership in any wicket against Pakistan was Shahriar Nafees and Shakib Al Hasan’s 180 in Dhaka in 2011.
