April 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:10 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Monday assured the MLAs that steps would be taken to streamline the distribution of free rice to cardholders so that delivery would be done in a timely manner.

Making the assurance during Question Hour, the Chief Minister said as there was shortage in procurement of rice and public criticised the distribution, the government had to adopt the scheme of Rs. 300 instead of 10 kilo of rice for two months and accordingly Rs. 600 was credited into the account of cardholders. But some welcomed the scheme while others opposed it.

Taking into account the opinion of several people, the government decided to continue the scheme from the month of May.

AIADMK MLA A. Anbalagan said the government should introduce region-wise tender system to procure and a constituency wise committee be constituted to ensure the distribution of rice.
