Custody of sacked Minister extended

May 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:00 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

The judicial custody of sacked minister Agri S.S. Krishnamoorthy and Chief Engineer of Department of Agricultural Engineering M. Senthil, both arrested in connection with the suicide of S. Muthukumarasamy, Executive Engineer of Department of Agricultural Engineering, has been extended up to May 14.

As the judicial remand of Mr. Krishnamoorthy and Mr. Senthil, who have been lodged at Palayamkottai Central Prison, expired on Thursday, Judicial Magistrate I Ramalingam extended the custody till May 14 through videoconferencing.

The case of the CB-CID, the investigating agency, is that Mr. Krishnamoorthy exerted pressure on the officials to collect bribe from the recently appointed drivers in the Department of Agricultural Engineering and Mr. Senthil acted as a conduit between his subordinates and the then minister. When Muthukumarasamy refused to collect bribe from the selected drivers, he came under pressure and was forced to commit suicide.
